Strategic Partners International Co-Production Market Opens Call for Applications

Strategic Partners (SP), Canada’s only international co-production market for film and television projects, opened its online global Call for Applications today.

Film & TV producers looking to submit projects involving co-production opportunities with Canada, the United States, United Kingdom or this year’s spotlight countries; Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, are encouraged to apply for selection.

SP, which this year runs September 12-14, 2008, in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, receives hundreds of applications worldwide. The market facilitates introductions and business meetings amongst pre-selected film and television producers and financers.
“The two days I attended were completely worth the price of admission - one meeting alone clinched a UK distribution deal I have been working on for two years, another connected me to some financing money, a third offered valuable information whereby we will avoid what could have been a difficult problem on one of our projects,” said Lesley Ann Patten, Ziji Films, Canada. “The best thing about SP is that …it’s an intimate event…you see people over and over and actually form relationships with them, so that when you call them a few months later, they actually know who you are and remember your projects.”

Last year’s event saw a record number of countries represented and many of the over 130 projects coming to the market reported progress on these ventures as a result of their involvement in SP.

“As I’ve been traveling to other markets around the world, it’s become obvious that Argentina, Brazil and Mexico are the hot co-pro partners right now,” said Jan Miller, Strategic Partners Director. “With SP’s ‘everything under one roof’ approach to moving projects forward, it’s the place to to find co-production partners.”

The deadline for applications is Wednesday July 9th, 2008. As numbers are restricted to keep the event intimate, sales agents, broadcasters, financiers and agencies looking to partner with producers and new projects are encouraged to register as soon as possible.
