Call for Entries


1. The Secretariat General of Communication - Secretariat General of Information, in collaboration with the Greek Film Centre and within the framework of the annual international conference “People with Disabilities and Mass Media” has established an annual International Documentary Festival in Athens with documentary films focusing exclusively on issues of disability.

2. The Festival’s aim is to promote the further awareness, acceptance and integration of disabled people and to encourage film-makers, disabled or not, to take an active interest in this area and address the widest possible public.

3. The “EMOTION PICTURES Documentary and Disability: 2nd International Festival – Athens 2008” will take place in June 2008 in Athens, at the same time as the 3rd International Conference “People with Disabilities and Mass Media”.

4. The Festival features two sections, In Competition and Out of Competition. Films in the latter section do not compete for the cash awards. The classification decision belongs exclusively to the Festival Administration.

5. The Jury will award the following 7 prizes to films participating in the competition section:

1. First Prize for Best Feature-length Documentary (over 30’)
2. First Prize for Best Short Documentary (less than 30’)
3. Second Prize for Best Feature-length Documentary (over 30’)
4. Second Prize for Best Short Documentary (less than 30’)
5. Prize for originality and innovative direction
6. First Special Jury Prize
7. Second Special Jury Prize

All prizes carry a cash award of €10,000 which will be shared equally by producer and director.

6. Candidates will be selected by the Festival Administration, and all entries must fulfill the following requirements:
• Their content must be strictly on the subject of disability.
• There should be no prior Greek television broadcast of entries or prior release on video and/or DVD in Greece.
• Their production date must be after 01/01/2005.
• The screening copy must be available in Digital Beta PAL or Beta SP PAL for the official screening with no subtitles (Ratio 4:3. In the event of 16:9, the films should not require conversion in order to be screened).
• English subtitles should be available.
• Limit of one entry per director.

7. Interested filmmakers are requested to submit the attached entry form, also available on the festival’s website (http://www.ameamedia.gr/en/festival/participation). Entry forms must be signed by both producer and director of the documentary.

Along with the entry form, candidates are requested to submit a copy of the documentary film in DVD format with English subtitles.

Participants are also requested to provide the following in a digital format:

• A 150-200 word synopsis of the documentary in English.
• At least two still photos in print quality (300 dpi and over) from the film.
• Press Kit

The deadline for the receipt of entry submissions is 30/3/2008, at the following address:

Entries should be clearly marked: for non-commercial use.
Confirmation of receipt of entries will be sent by email.

7. Entry submission costs (postage/ courier) for preview DVDs are borne by the entrant. The Festival reserves the right to keep in its archive film copies submitted, as well as to screen them for non-commercial purposes (e.g. at schools), provided that their directors and producers have received prior notification.

9. The Festival reserves the right to use photos and screen excerpts (up to 3 minutes long) in order to promote the film and the Festival.

10. If a film is selected for screening, the screening copy’s shipping costs to the festival are borne by the entrant. The festival is charged with the shipment back.

10. Participants agree that the selected documentaries will be subtitled in Greek by Festival organizers.

11. Entries cannot be withdrawn from the Festival following their selection.

12. Completion and signature of the entry form indicates the applicants’ consent to the Festival rules and regulations.
